Dominic Hayden Student Butte With regards to the question of when life begins for the unborn human being, first one must define life and then see when this definition applies to the unborn child. At the least, we seem to say that those things are alive which are self movers. So, we wouldn't say a rock is alive. Further, in moving themselves, living things both both grow and take in nutrients. It is clear that the unborn child has at least this kind of life. But, this life is the same that we attribute to plants. Yet, the unborn child seems to have a higher form of life than just a plant. For, plants do not respond to external stimulus. Yet, unborn children respond to external stimulus just like any other animal would at some of the earliest stages of the pregnancy. And so, it seems that at least the unborn child has a life equal to any ordinary animal. However, there is something totally unique about the unborn child that we do not see in any other animals. From the embryos of all other animals, there eventually develops a full grown animal which does nothing more through out its life than respond to external stimuli and moves according to its instinct. But, with the the unborn child, something totally different happens. From this seemingly irrational animal we see a full grown human being develop, a human being with the powers of thought and the ability to love and appreciate beauty. This human being is not some lowly irrational animal that crawls on the ground. No, here we have a being with an immortal soul, a soul that is fully rational and unique in the eyes of the creator. These things are what make someone a person. Ask any mother who has nurtured a child, and she will tell you that there is special bond of love with her child in the earliest stages of pregnancy that is not only one way, but reciprocal. And so, it seems evident that the unborn child is a person at the earliest stages of pregnancy. And, since conception is the most significant event at those early stages, then it seems logical to say the unborn child is a living person at fertilization. Thus, I fully support CI-100 and ask all, especially mothers, to show their support. I have lost enough of my generation to abortion. Please, stop destroying the next one.
